- Next-generation industrial production is increasingly shifting toward flexible and demand-oriented manufacturing. This shift relies on distributed control traffic, introducing new challenges with respect to the security, robustness, and performance of the underlying network. Addressing these challenges requires new technologies and architectural concepts. Unfortunately, teaching these concepts remains difficult due to limited access to real production systems and the lack of openly available educational testbeds. In this paper, we present REFLECT (the REsilient Factory for Learning sEcurity in Control Traffic). REFLECT is an open-source testbed that features distributed control and a realistic industrial network topology, thereby enabling hands-on education and experimentation for future industrial networks. REFLECT offers two complementary learning paths: a) an offensive learning path that enables the exploration of vulnerabilities and attack techniques, and b) a defensive learning path that focuses on securing industrial communication and improving system resilience. REFLECT is continuously being developed by the Esslingen University of Applied Sciences, and is available on GitHub.
