- Abstract (EN)
- While teaching projects offer great opportunities for students to develop their skill set, they can suffer from accessibility problems. A problem specific to embedded software projects concerns the limited access to hardware components. The impact of this limitation is especially noticeable when it comes to testing, where the availability of only a few or even one complete system under test creates a tight bottleneck, which leads to less testing being done and consequently to lower-quality software. The test system presented here aims to alleviate these problems for a specific example project – a self-driving model car called the “cITIcar” – by providing a modular test bench controlled by a remote access test software. This increases accessibility to development of embedded system of the example project and thereby the potential for student participation while simplifying review and maintenance by more experienced team members. The chosen approach also opens up the possibility for reuse with similar teaching projects or even embedded systems courses.
